Bucharest, July 24, 2023 – Genesis FM, part of the Genesis Property group, reaffirms its commitment to the environment and becomes the first company in the Romanian real estate sector to obtain the Certificate of Registration under the prestigious environmental management system EMAS, marking an important step in concrete environmental protection initiatives.
Although only 20 companies in Romania are registered in the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), Genesis FM has taken a step forward, consolidating its position of leader in sustainability by adding a management tool that continuously measures and reduces the impact of the company's operations on the environment. In addition, the company's environmental management system is already recognized by the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications.
In the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the European Ecological Pact (EU Green Deal), joining the EMAS environmental management system represents the active determination of Genesis FM to optimize work processes, reduce environmental impact and efficiently use resources.
The process of obtaining the Certificate of Registration under EMAS is a rigorous and meticulous one, consisting in initial environmental assessments, reporting on a set of basic indicators and the transparent publication of the Environmental Statement. Genesis FM's diligence invested in this process is a clear statement for transparency and accountability, voluntarily informing all stakeholders of its environmental performance and activities.
"This new achievement underlines the commitment and contribution that the Genesis Property group makes to protecting the environment. Our efforts are focused on reducing energy and water consumption, maximizing reuse and recycling with the aim of significantly reducing the waste generated and, implicitly, the impact on the environment. We are aware of our responsibility and role in the fight against climate change and are dedicated to achieving the goals of sustainable development," said Roxana Albu, General Manager of the Facility Management division, Genesis Property.
The EMAS registration allows the company to better understand its direct impact on the environment and formulate more precise environmental goals and targets. Genesis Property has previously committed to zero emissions across its portfolio buildings by 2030, by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy production technologies.
"The Certificate of Registration under EMAS is part of Genesis Property's desire to become the leader of the real estate sector in our country in the practice and promotion of sustainability. Our vision is to transform our properties into efficient, modern and resilient spaces, consistently facilitating people's reconnection with nature, for a healthy social and professional life. The YUNITY Park project is the best example of sustainable commitment, among others, standing out through the 1000 square meters of urban forest and another "forest" of photovoltaic panels," added Ioan Bejan, Sustainability Director, Genesis Property.
The buildings in the Genesis Property portfolio, certified BREEAM Very Good since 2013, are in the advanced process of obtaining the BREEAM Outstanding certification. With investments in state-of-the-art equipment for the energy efficiency of the buildings and in the 1,080 photovoltaic panels installed on 4,000 m2 of the roofs, YUNITY Park ends up meeting the nZEB criteria already this year.
In November 2021, Genesis Property became the first real estate company in the country to join the select community of companies that support the 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labor, environmental protection and the fight against corruption. This is just another example of Genesis Property's dedication to a more sustainable world.
Furthermore, all seven buildings in YUNITY Park will achieve the IMMUNE Building Standard™ - Resilient, with 5 out of 5 stars, reflecting Genesis Property's commitment to a healthy working and urban living environment.
