17 November 2021. Genesis Property joins the UN Global Compact initiative and becomes the first commercial real estate owner and developer in Romania to enter the United Nations global community for sustainability and durable development. Through the UN Global Compact, over 19,000 organizations in over 160 countries around the world contribute to creating a sustainable future based on responsible and innovative practices in all verticals.
Genesis Property decided to align its business strategy and operations to the sustainable development principles of the United Nations and, in the near future, will adopt a series of measures designed to support the global vision for sustainability in the local market, impacting people and the communities it is part of. Overall, the UN Global Compact is based on a set of 10 core values in the field of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption policies. In Romania, only 20 companies, including Genesis Property, have so far joined the initiative, according to official data.
"Creating a sustainable future is an undisputed necessity to which each of us must contribute. At Genesis Property, we are undertaking a long-term commitment to sustainable development and as a leader in the Romanian commercial real estate sector, we have a new and bold vision around the future of office buildings and workspaces. We are focusing on sustainable initiatives to create a healthy environment for the future and reduce environmental impact, and we are pleased to continue our mission as part of an impactful initiative such as the UN Global Compact”, said Dr. Darren Allen, Healthy by Design Building Institute Director and Genesis Property Development Director.
Today, sustainability initiatives are no longer just about protecting the environment, but are increasingly focusing on people’s health, especially in the epidemiological context of the last year and a half. As a result, the sustainability of office buildings has become an important part of people’s lives, and health, both personal and in the workplace, is an essential part of sustainability initiatives.
Last year, Genesis Property designed and developed IMMUNE Building Standard™, the global standard for healthy buildings, which proposes 135 coherent and sustainable criteria for indoor spaces where people spend 90% of their time. Currently, several office, industrial and residential buildings around the world have implemented or are implementing the measures and have obtained a certification for "healthy buildings".
The company aims to make Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles the core of its activity and implement an efficient Environmental Management System that allows a better understanding of the direct environmental aspects and impacts within the scope of the system.
Genesis Property’s business strategy will accelerate the development of a sustainable real estate sector, with a key focus on energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact, in line with the UN Global Compact principles.
